Museum organizations are no strangers to the challenges UX Practitioners are now facing in the worlds of virtual and augmented realities. For centuries, museologists in the art world have adopted wide-ranging approaches to displaying visual content and metadata within different environmental contexts and constraints.
The decisions that architects, artists and museums have made to tell stories and communicate information in physical spaces contain lessons we can all learn from, especially as the fields of Information Architecture and User Experience Design exit the safe confines of a browser-based world.
We’ll take journey through the history of museums, while looking at their evolution, and examples of successes, failures and the affects of the ties the bind environments and information.
