Designer Profiles: Jeanine Guido
Meet Jeanine Guido. She’s an Executive Director for Service Design at JPMorgan. She’s also one of the local leaders of IxDA NYC!
Briefly describe your career path, including the reasons behind job changes and shifts.
Curiosity and desire to learn has driven my career path and most of my job changes. As the discipline of design has changed and continues to change, I've changed along with it and every step has been a building block for the next step. Starting as a traditional communication designer, I've developed skills in a number of areas, from research to service design and team management, to creative leadership and innovation strategies and training. Allowing myself to step out of my comfort zone has prepared me to take on endeavors beyond design such as my current role which focuses on building a design strategy practice to support culture change and business transformation.
What excites you about being a designer?
Its focus on 'making' beautiful things to help solve problems for people.
What advice would you give someone starting out in their career today? What advice would you give yourself looking back to the start of your career?
Advice to my younger self: Focus on me and not anyone else, continuously feed my soul, and enjoy the ride more.
Advice to those starting out: Same I would give to my younger self.
As long as one stays true to oneself, everything falls into place.
What’s one thing every designer should know?
Let-it-go. We don't design for ourselves, we design for others.
What’s the most inspirational thing you've seen / read / heard recently?
Anything by Mary Oliver.
What’s your favorite place to escape in NYC?
Central Park North in the summer time, The Rubin Museum the rest of the year.
